Mansfield Dental Cleanings
Maintaining Your Dental Health
Regular dental cleanings are the foundation for maintaining dental health for life. It is recommended that you have a professional cleaning every six months. The dental professionals at Orchard Family Dental provide dental cleanings for our patients in our Mansfield, TX dental office.
The Importance of Regular Cleanings
There are many reasons to visit our office for regular dental cleanings. A dental cleaning only takes about 30 to 40 minutes and helps to prevent and detect a wide variety of problems. Our dentists and hygienists use special instruments to effectively remove tartar and plaque that cannot be removed by brushing and flossing.
Regular dental cleanings help to:
- Prevent cavities
- Prevent gingivitis
- Prevent gum disease
- Detect problems early when they are easier to treat
During your visit, our Mansfield dentists provide a quick exam to monitor the health of your teeth and gums. Don’t let fear keep you from taking care of your teeth. We make every attempt to provide a comfortable and pain-free experience for every patient. We offer appointments for dental cleanings early and late in the day to accommodate our patients’ busy schedules.
If gum disease is present, a more aggressive cleaning approach may be required. We offer a deep cleaning treatment, known as scaling and root planing to address the problem. This is usually followed by three or four maintenance cleanings during the year.
Gum disease is an infection that affects the gums and surrounding bone that is a main cause of tooth loss in adults. Left untreated, you may experience bone loss. Some signs of gum disease include red, swollen gums bleeding gums, bad breath, and gums that are pulling away from the teeth. Tartar build up beneath the gums can be detected via x-rays and early treatment can help prevent the problem from getting worse.
The Treatment Process
The dentist will numb your teeth and gums to help you feel comfortable during the procedure. Special instruments are used to clean the tartar from beneath the gum line. These appointments generally take longer than a regular cleaning, but can be completed in about an hour. If you have any of the signs of gum disease, contact our office to schedule an appointment.
