Getting your teeth professionally cleaned at a dental office every six months is one of the foundations to having a healthy mouth. Cleaning appointments take just 30-40 mins and are usually painless. Dentists or hygienists will use special instruments to remove plaque and tartar that can’t be removed by brushing or flossing at home. Regular dental cleanings, accompanied by good home care will help prevent cavities, gingivitis and gum (periodontal) disease.
Depending on your dental health, your dentist will normally give you a quick exam at every regular cleaning appointment. Here at Orchard Dental in Mansfield, Texas, we take your busy schedule into consideration by offering cleaning appointments both early and late in the day.
Orchard Dental takes pride in being a friendly and inviting dental office. We understand the anxiety that can come with visiting the dentist, and have made every attempt to make your visit with us as simple and pain-free as possible. We are genuinely concerned about your oral health and want to help keep you smiling for years and years to come.
If you are diagnosed with gum disease, also known as periodontal disease, you may need a more aggressive approach to getting your teeth cleaned. Some patients require a one-time non-surgical gum treatment (scaling & root planing), followed by maintenance cleanings (perio maintenance therapy) 3 or 4 times a year.
Gum disease is an infection of the gum tissue and bone that surrounds and supports your teeth. This is a major cause of tooth loss in adults. As gum disease persists, the bone levels around your teeth may decrease, causing your teeth to become mobile. Because gum disease is usually painless, you may or may not know this is occurring. Signs of gum disease are: gums that bleed easily, red, swollen or tender gums, gums that have pulled away from the teeth, and even persistent bad breath. X-rays can be taken at our dental office to visually see the tartar buildup underneath the gums to determine if this treatment is necessary.
If left untreated, gum disease can seriously compromise your oral health. However, a deep cleaning will remove the tartar that has gotten below the gum tissue, and allow the tissues surrounding your teeth to heal properly.
If you are in need of a deep cleaning, we can help. During this simple procedure, the dentist will numb your teeth and the surrounding tissue. This allows you to feel comfortable as the dentist cleans all the tartar from underneath the gums and teeth. Deep cleaning appointments usually take about an hour and can be done the same day you come in for your check up.
